Watch Ricky Gervais’ opening to The Golden Globes. Despite expectations that he would out-do his insult-ridden monologue from last year, this year’s opening was a fairly lame affair but did take digs at Jodie Foster, Mel Gibson, Kim Kardashian and Johnny Depp . There were many hurt feeling after last year and it took some special diplomacy to get him to return. According to the LA Times:
HFPA President Takla-O’Reilly helped work through the sour feelings of some of the 83 members of her organization over last year’s Gervais performance. She flew to Paris last summer to meet the comedian (who co-created the British original version of television’s “The Office”) and helped pave the way for his return to the Globes.
Viewers in the UK had their show interrupted bu a transmission error during the monologue on E!.

Wait. Not entertaining? What? He was (once again) brilliantly hilarious and for most people the only reason to watch this advertising-infested show!
